PUNJAB: Gunner Desai Mohan- the sole witness of the incident confessed involvement in stealing the INSAS Rifle and killings of his colleagues. At a press conference, the HQ South Western Command on Monday confirmed the news. As per the probe, he resorted to the act to avenge the humiliation after meticulous planning. Mohan was arrested on Monday by the Bhatinda. Police.
“After sustained interrogation, one individual named Gunner Desai Mohan,q from the Artillery unit where the incident occurred has confessed to his involvement in stealing of an INSAS rifle and killing four of his colleagues to the Police. Initial investigations indicate that this was apparently due to personal reasons/animosity,” the statement read.
Police sources said Mohan told the investigating team of the Bathinda police and the army authorities that he was subjected to sexual harassment and turned the gun on his colleagues.
Four Indian Army Jawans were killed in a firing that took place in the wee hours on Wednesday at the Bathinda Military Station in Punjab. An FIR was registered against two unidentified men clad who in white kurta pyjamas, carrying a rifle and an axe during the time of firing.
According to the first information report (FIR) at the cantonment police station on April 12, Mohan claimed he had spotted two masked men in white kurta-pyjama near the crime scene. The case was registered on the complaint of Major Ashutosh Shukla of 80 Medium Regiment, who quoted Mohan’s information that one of the assailants was carrying an INSAS (Indian Small Arms System) rifle and the other an axe.
The four Army jawans were shot dead while they were sleeping near the barracks behind the officers’ mess at Bathinda military station early Wednesday.
A search operation was immediately launched and the area was sealed for movement. In a statement the Army confirmed the death of 4 personnel.
