Poonch: In a gunbattle between the security forces and terrorists on the 14th day of Poonch anti-terror operation, two policemen and a soldier have been injured. Security forces continue to grapple two major situations in Jammu and Kashmir; killing of civilians in Kashmir, and hunt for militants.
The long-drawn operation in Poonch reached its 14th day on Sunday without success as security forces are not very clear about the number of militants. According to official sources, they are approaching a terrorist hideout in Bhata Durian area when the police were fired upon by the terrorists hiding there. During this firing, an injured terrorist, Zia Mustafa could not be extracted due to heavy firing.
Earlier on Friday, Zia was lodged in Kot Balwal jail for several years and taken on a 10-day remand by police. Zia had infiltrated 15 years ago and lodged at Jammu’s Kot Balwal jail. Sources reveal that he might be in touch with the terrorists from the jail.
Meanwhile, Union Home Minister Amit Shah arrives at Jammu to inaugurate the new Indian Institute of Technology at Jammu and lay foundation stone for various development projects in the state.
