Raigad: As a precautionary measure, all schools in Raigad district will remain closed on Monday due to the prediction of heavy rains in the region. The District Collector of Raigad, Yogesh Mhase, announced the decision, citing the Orange Alert issued by the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) for the area.
The region has been facing challenges posed by the heavy downpour, with recent incidents of landslides causing significant loss of life. A rescue operation conducted by the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) team at the landslide-hit Irshalgad in Raigad was called off after claiming the lives of 27 individuals.
In addition to the situation in Raigad, Gujarat is grappling with severe flooding, witnessing a distressing recurrence of floods after four decades. Junagadh and other parts of Gujarat have been severely affected by heavy rains, disrupting public life.
Further, Noida is also facing flood alerts as the water discharge in the Hindon river continues to rise. The Gautam Buddh Nagar administration issued warnings for low-lying regions along the river, leading to the evacuation of around 200 people from five villages to shelter homes. The swelling Hindon river, a tributary of the Yamuna river, caused water to enter houses in three low-lying areas from Chhijarsi to Eco Tech.
The authorities have also been looking for the conditions in these areas which will help them to take the necessary measures and ensure that the residents are safe. The situation remains under observation, and measures are being implemented to mitigate potential risks caused by the heavy rainfall and flooding.
