Christopher Nolan’s Greek epic-The Odyssey has been performing well since its release on Friday. The star studded ensemble for Homer adaptation features Matt Damon, Anne Hathaway, Robert Pattinson, Tom Holland and Zendaya. Despite its Adults Only (A) certification, the film still managed to emerge as one of the biggest Hollywood openers of the year.

As expected the movie has made an impressive start at the Indian box office minting Rs 17.4 crore ner on its opening day while the gross collection stands at Rs 20.76 crore.

The movie primarily booked in English language version contributed Rs 13.75 crore to the total earnings. The Hindi version clocked Rs 1.90 crore while regional languages like Telugu and Tamil earned Rs 1.10 crore and Rs 65 lakh respectively.

Talking about occupancy, the English IMAX 2D version recorded 79.7% attendance on day 1. In the morning the occupancy rate stood at 73.86% which gradually peaked through the evening. Mumbai hosted the highest number of shows with 50 registering 70% occupancy followed by Delhi with 46 shows but with an occupancy rate of 77.8%.

Globally, it has minted $17.6 million from Thursday’ screening in North America, making it the biggest preview opening of the year. If reports ars to be believed Nolan’s Greek adaptation is expected to earn $50 million from Friday opening and preview screenings.

Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer has also taken a back seat with his latest work being appreciated more. The Oscar winning drama had earned Rs 14.5 crore lesser than what the Matt Damon starrer collected on its opening day.

With an overwhelming word of mouth, curiosity has been increasing the attendance in the theatres. If initial responses translate into sustained collections, Nolans latest could head for a historic box office collection.
