Makers of Mahakali, the mythological film, have released a teaser. The present is a story that depicts the age-old conflict between Devas and Asuras from a different perspective. The film is the latest addition to Krishant Varma’s cinematic universe after Hanu-Man.
The teaser brings along a simple question: what if the side that is usually seen or read in the history of evil has its own version of the story?
The teaser opens with a baby being placed inside a temple. The same child appears again towards the end, this time in the hands of goddess Mahakali. The mystery revolves around the connection between Mahakali, the baby and the larger conflict is yet to be revealed.
The teaser brings up the events of Samudra Manthan and the fight over amrit. Both Devas and Asuras took part in the churning of the ocean. However, the nectar of immortality was only given to Devas. It also raises questions about why the Asuras were denied their claim to Indra’s throne and later sent to the underworld.
Akshay Kumar, who plays the role of Shukracharya, the guru of Asuras, raises the question of why the Asuras were denied the claim. The teaser soon takes the conflict beyond mythology. Shukracharya declares that Asuras will soon be free from their oppression.
It then introduces Raktabija and hints at a threat to humanity. A section of the teaser shows Shukracharya giving Raktabija a direct order, “Raktabeej! Manav jaati ka sarvanaash kardo,” suggesting the film involves more than just conflicts between the Devas and the Asuras.
The teaser ends with “The End Begins” before revealing the release date as July 8— January 8, 2027.
