Cellulitis cases rise in Madhya Pradesh’s Rajgarh, over 70 patients reported in a month

The condition of cellulitis, a bacterial infection which causes redness, swelling, pain and warmth at the infection site is increasing in the Madhya Pradesh’s Rajgarh district. Health officials are concerned about the number of cases reportedly found over the past month in the district which numbered more than 70.

During the period, approximately 80–100 suspected cases of cellulitis have been admitted to the district hospital. With respect to one unfortunate case with a patient from Biaora, the infection grew to a severe stage and ending up in the amputation of the entire foot.

The infection can be caused if bacteria get in through cuts, injuries or mild skin infections, doctors said. Another factor is the continuous yet heavy rainfalls in the season, which might lead to bacterial infections.

Addressing the press, Dr Abhishek Silodia, orthopaedic specialist at the district hospital, explained that cellulitis is a bacterial infection which could worsen in patients with diabetes or low immune system.

Symptoms are often redness, swelling, pain and increased warmth in the affected area. People are being urged not to dismiss the symptoms and seek medical attention as soon as possible, especially if the infection is spreading.

Depending on the severity of the infection, medical treatment may consist of antibiotics and other medications. Physicians have also emphasized maintaining wounds and skin infections to keep them clean and to seek prompt medical care.

As cases keep spotting up, the health department is keeping an eye on the situation and advising residents to continue to be vigilant, particularly during rainy months.
