Actor and signer Ayushmann Khurrana has reportedly received a similar extortion call from individuals claiming to be associated with the Lawrence Bishnoi gang. The news comes just a day after Bollywood actor Tushar Kapoor recieved an extortion call.
The police are currently examining the voice recordings to identify the callers. As part of the probe, the Crime Branch’s technical team has analysed the audio recordings of the threats and compared the voices with existing samples in its records.
Earlier on Tuesday, in the threatening audio message received by actor Tusshar Kapoor, the caller reportedly identified himself as Harry Boxer. However, the voice samples did not match those available with the Crime Branch, strengthening suspicions that the caller may have falsely invoked the name of a Lawrence Bishnoi gang member to threaten the actor and extort money.
The threats add to a growing list of security concerns involving Bollywood celebrities,following the recent firing incident involving actor Tiger Shroff.
The Baaghi actor was targeted while he was leaving from the football ground in his car in Juhu area on October 18. Shroff escaped unhurt, although a vlogger and his driver were injured in the incident.
Hours after the firing, members of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang claimed responsibility for the attack. Police subsequently named jailed gangster Bishnoi’s aide Anil Pandit as a wanted accused. So far, 13 people have been arrested, including the alleged shooters. Investigators also found that the shooters had allegedly conducted reconnaissance near the residences of Bollywood actors Amitabh Bachchan, Salman Khan, Aamir Khan and Akshay Kumar.
Tightening security measures, Abhishek Bachchan was also spotted nearby as father Amitabh Bachchan during his traditional Sunday darshan greeted fans from behind bulletproof glass outside his Juhu residence.
Shah Rukh Khan’s 61st birthday celebrations at Mannat on November 2 also offered a glimpse of the enhanced security measures. Police personnel were deployed in large numbers, while the entire lane outside his residence was heavily guarded. Fans who usually gather outside the bungalow faced restrictions this time, with access to the area being closely monitored.
