Chennai: The actor turned politician, Vijay Talahpathy convened his second meeting with the Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar at Lok Bhavan. The meeting that is said to have been concluded after hour awaits hopes TVK could stake claim of the government.
According to sources, it was not Vijay who requested to convene for the second time, but the Governor who called him to discuss if he managed to gain cross party support.
“How will you form the government with 113 MLAs? How can you assure you will prove majority after taking the oath,” Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar has asked Vijay, sources told. He also asked him about the other parties that will support the TVK government. “Can action be taken merely based on the assumption that majority support will eventually come,” Vijay was questioned sources added.
Earlier on Wednesday, Vijay and his party had submitted a letter with signatures from 113 MLAs with additional support from the Congress which abandoned its union with DMK. Despite of which he fell short of 5 MLAs to form a government. Sources reveal, VCK and Left parties are expected to extend support to the newly formed party. The alliance is expected to provide additional support required by TVK to achieve the said numbers needed to form the government.
TVK emerged as the single largest part in Tamil Nadu delivering a major upset to the Dravidian duopoly. It captured 108 seats across the state, following short by just 10 numbers to stake claim.
