Raipur: A 30-year-old man in Chhattisgarh’s Balrampur chopped off his finger and offered it to Goddess Kali at a temple after the BJP-led NDA won a majority in the Lok Sabha polls.
“I was disturbed to see the Congress leading in the initial trends. The Congress supporters were very excited. I visited the Kali temple in my village, which the entire village has faith in. I also had faith in it and made a vow,” Pandey said.
“When the BJP was winning the elections that evening, I went to the temple, chopped my finger and offered it. The BJP will now form the government, but I would have been more happy if they (NDA) crossed the 400 mark,” he added.
On June 4, Durgesh Pandey, a BJP supporter, went into depression when he came to know that the Congress was leading in the initial trends of the Lok Sabha elections. He then went to the Kali temple and prayed for the BJP’s victory.
Later, when Pandey saw the BJP emerging as the single largest party and NDA crossing the majority mark of 272, he was overjoyed and again went to the Kali temple where he chopped his left hand finger and offered it to the goddess.
After that, he then tried to stop the bleeding by tying a cloth around the wound. However, it only worsened over time. The severity of his condition prompted his family to rush him to the Community Health Centre in Samari.
The medical staff provided emergency first aid but deemed it necessary to refer him to the Ambikapur Medical College due to the extent of his injury.
