The vision of “New India” has been marred with an acute contradiction in the classroom settings. As per a recent report released by NITI Aayog, titled “School Education System in India,” the issue of deteriorated conditions of public education has been brought back to the limelight, and shocking numbers of government schools are reported to be struggling due to a deficiency of basic amenities.
The Statistics of Deficit
The report presents some staggering numbers regarding the issue of deficient infrastructure. More disturbingly, the report emphasizes the grave concern of sanitary hygiene, which is particularly affecting the female youth population. Based on the statistics, it can be seen that:
- 98,592 schools in India lack the facility of functioning toilets for female students.
- 61,540 schools are devoid of basic toilet amenities.
