Amid the ongoing intense heat wave in Delhi and a yellow alert for heat waves, the government has taken a new step in schools to protect the health of children. In response to the rising temperatures and heatwave conditions, the Directorate of Education has issued an order to implement a “water bell system” in all schools. Under this system, schools will periodically ring a special bell to give children breaks to drink water and stay hydrated.
The aim is to ensure that children do not suffer from dehydration and heatstroke during the intense heat. According to officials, this step has been taken as a precautionary measure to prevent heat-related health problems. Schools have been instructed to provide children with adequate water and to exercise extra caution during the heat.
The Directorate of Education has issued instructions stating that all schools will ring a “water bell” every 45 to 60 minutes to provide children with regular water breaks. This arrangement aims to ensure that children do not go without water for long periods during the summer heat, preventing health problems like dehydration.
In addition, the Directorate of Education has directed all schools to prohibit or limit outdoor activities due to the extreme heat. Schools have also been asked to ensure that children are provided with adequate water and that they are not allowed to engage in prolonged physical activity in the sun.
According to the instructions, prayer meetings and classes will not be held in open grounds or premises in schools. Morning prayer meetings have been asked to be held indoors or in shaded areas for a limited time. These steps are aimed at protecting children from direct exposure to the scorching sun and heat, thereby reducing the risk of problems like heat stress and dehydration. The government has also asked school administrations to ensure that children are kept in a cool and safe environment, adequate water is available, and unnecessary sun exposure is not allowed.
