Whats App of Class 9 parents is flooding with messages targeting the CBSE over its bombshell on three language policy for Class 9.

“Seems our kids are experimental rats for CBSE this year”, wrote an angry parent of a Class 9 student, of a renowned school in Noida.

“They (CBSE) expect kids to learn Hindi and Sanskrit now?” vented another mother in anger.

“CBSE, every 2-3 years comes up with something totally immature. Change is important, but not at the expense of burdening the child,” shared another parent

The agitation comes as students currently in Class 9 made their language choice 3 years ago and have learnt and gained proficiency and liking for it by now. With the new policy, the board expects them to forget the 3 years of learning and expect them to learn two new regional languages.

Earlier on April 9th, the Central Board of Secondary Education had clearly stated thatthe 3 language policy would not be applied to class 9 students until 2029-30 academic session. It was to be introduced in Grade this year onwards. Language choices were made, books and other prep needed were put in place.

Cut to May 15th, the board in an abrupt U-turn stated that the new 3 language policy would be applicable for class 9 students from July 1.

Under the new policy, students are mandated to study 3 languages (R1,R2,R3) with atleast two being native languages. A foreign language should also be chosen. The first two languages are usually English and Indian regional language. Since most of the CBSE schools are English medium this becomes automatically becomes compulsory choice leaving little room for French, German within the options.
