Jabalpur: After a ten-day-long manhunt that included some dramatic moves in court, the Bhopal Police arrested Samarth Singh, the fugitive husband of actress-turned-model Twisha Sharma. Sharma was recently found dead at her matrimonial house in Bhopal amid reports of dowry torture from her family members. The day started off on an ominous note for Singh, who appeared in the Madhya Pradesh High Court with his lawyer, who then suddenly filed a motion to withdraw his anticipatory bail petition. It may be noted that the anticipatory bail was sought before the high court as his plea for pre-arrest bail had been rejected by the lower city court last week.

Not long after that, Singh tried to surrender discreetly at the Jabalpur District Court. In a video posted on social media, witnesses reported seeing a heavily camouflaged Singh, who had donned a cap, dark glasses, a gamcha (cotton towel), and even a face mask in a bid to avoid recognition. But instead, the court directed Singh to surrender before a jurisdictional court in Bhopal.

After Singh left the courtroom, local police immediately apprehended and arrested him and shifted him to the Omti police station where he was handed over to the waiting Bhopal Police officials. The arrest comes as a crucial development in this case which has made waves in the state. Twisha Sharma (33), residing in Noida, had married Singh in December 2025.

She was found hanged to death in her Katara Hills residence on May 12. Her family members have accused her in-laws of subjecting her to brutal physical assaults and making financial demands of her. Consequently, the police have filed an FIR under several provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Dowry Prohibition Act.

An extensive investigation has since been conducted, with the government of Madhya Pradesh recommending a CBI inquiry into the case and High Court directing for the second post-mortem examination by a special team at AIIMS, Delhi. Singh’s mother, Giribala Singh, is herself a retired district judge named in the case who is fighting for revocation of her anticipatory bail for failing to cooperate with the police.
