The film fraternity in Kochi is facing trouble after a local model accused the associate director of multiple sexual assaults, leading to the establishment of a case by the police. The accused, Jojo Kurishinkal, from Alappuzha district, has allegedly done the work of Assistant and Associate Director in various films.
Police officials said the case was opened at Maradu police station on May 6 when the woman wrote a detailed complaint of sexual exploitation, physical assault and harassment by the man over a period of time.
As per the First Information Report (FIR), the complainant first came into contact with Kurishinkal through a dating application in July 2023. The accused reportedly told the jury at the trial that he was a movie director and that he was separated from his wife. Later, he proposed to her and allegedly promised her and her mother that he would marry her after he has finalized his divorce proceedings, police said.
The complaint further alleges that the accused invited the woman to his apartment in the Vyttila area on April 18, 2024 for the purpose of allegedly sexually assaulting her. The FIR states that the accused sexually harboured the complainant on several occasions and physically abused him for a span of several months.
Police also said the accused had repeatedly promised to marry the woman, but refused to do so.
A case has been registered against the accused under Sections 376(2)(n) of IPC for repeated rape of the same woman, the police said upon receiving the complaint.The police said they received the complaint and had opened a case against the accused under Sections 376(2)(n) of the Indian Penal Code, which covers repeated rape of the same woman. Further action will not take place until investigators have recorded the victim’s confidential statement, investigators said.
As the investigation continues, the accused will soon be summoned for questioning, authorities added.
