A murder case involving Intelligence Bureau (IB) officer Ankit Sharma, who was killed in the 2020 riots in North-East Delhi, will be heard in the Delhi court on Thursday. The Karkardooma Court will give its verdict after hearing the case against the former Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Councillor, who was joined by 10 others. Is one of the worst case studies in the context of the enforced devastation of several civilians and the terror that reigned in the nation’s capital during the riots.
The body of Ankit Sharma was found on 26th February 2020, in the drain of Khajuri Khas delhi. He was missing for a day before communal violence flared up in various parts of North-East Delhi.
During the riots, Sharma was killed and was a part of a bigger conspiracy, the prosecution stated. Murder investigators have cited that Hussain and others who have been condemned were a gang of lawbreakers behind the violence which killed his son.
Hussain got his name on the list of accused when 11 people were charged with offences against the Rifleman in March, 2023. Under the Indian Penal Code, offences include rioting, community enmity, murder and criminal conspiracy.
The case was registered based on Sharma’s father, Ravinder Kumar’s, complaint. He informed police that he could never contact his son when he went to his 25th birthday to buy goods that he had left at his house. He was later told the story by the local people that a man’s body had been found in a local sewer. Ankit Sharma’s body was then established to be the deceased’s.
The Delhi High Court had refused Hussain’s bail earlier. The judgment is expected to be a major milestone in one of the critical cases that was filed following the riots in Delhi in 2020 and is likely to be a significant verdict in the gargantuan case.
