New Delhi: Supreme Court on Monday was informed that the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is supposed to take charge of the investigation in one day’s time into the unnatural death of 32-year-old actress and model Twisha Sharma. It comes in the wake of allegations against the local investigating authorities for institutional biases and procedural discrepancies in the investigation of the matter.
The Apex Court took suo motu cognizance of the matter and filed a writ petition as “In Re: Alleged Institutional Bias and Procedural Discrepancies in the Unnatural Death of a Young Girl at Her Matrimonial Home”.

A bench headed by the Chief Justice of India Surya Kant allowed the CBI to take control after due recommendations from the Madhya Pradesh Government. While hearing the matter, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta told the Court that central agencies would come forward immediately. Showing anguish over the narrative created in the case, the bench urged the concerned families and media to exercise maximum restraint.
Twisha Sharma, a native of Noida, was found dead on 12th May 2026 at her marital home in Bhopal, barely five months after tying the knot with advocate Samarth Singh. The death was attributed to dowry harassment, physical violence, and murder since injuries were clearly visible on her body.
The case drew nationwide media attention due to the involvement of highly profiled accused; her husband was a lawyer, and her mother-in-law, Giribala Singh, was a retired district judge.
It was also reported that the process of filing the FIR was delayed, and electronic evidence was tampered with, thus prompting the High Court of Madhya Pradesh to conduct another autopsy. This second autopsy report, issued by a medical board from AIIMS, Delhi on Sunday, revealed that she had died of asphyxia due to hanging before her death through ligature but retained the viscera for testing of poisoning.
