The budget session of the parliament for 2025 is anticipated to start on the 31st of January and will be held in two different parts. As per the sources, the date of the exercise is expected to be as follows: the first phase between January 31 and February 13. During this period, the eighth consecutive budget of the current government is going to be presented by Finance Minister Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman on 1st February is an important event to present the government’s financial strategies and action plans for the year.

Pursuant to conventions, President Droupadi Murmu will address a joint sitting of the two Houses, the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, on January 31. On the same day, India’s Economic Survey – an exhaustive document unveiling the health of the Indian economy – will be released.

The first segment of the session will comprise sittings in both the Houses of the Motion of thanks to the Presidential address. The second half of the Budget Session will take place after a break and can be carried out between March 10 and April 4. This phase is important for considering and endorsing the need for grants for different ministries, as well as appropriation and finance bills.
