The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has detained an MBBS degree graduate of Uttar Dinajpur district of West Bengal on suspicion of his connections with terror groups and his possible role in the recent explosion outside the Red Fort in Delhi. The explosion, which the government called a terrorist incident, claimed thirteen lives and injured more than a few.
The suspect is a student of Al-Falah University in Haryana, and his name is Janisur Alam alias Nisar Alam. The native of Konal village is near Dalkhola, and Alam now lives in Ludhiana. Police officials claimed that he was apprehended in Surjapur Bazar on a Friday morning as he went back home after organizing a family wedding.
Investigators claimed that NIA was tracking the movements of Alam based on the data of mobile tower location. He was caught on his way back after reportedly being found loitering suspiciously by one of the area transit stations. He is reported to have made an effort to escape during the process of primary questioning, and officers arrested him.
Even though the NIA has not yet outlined the evidence that ties him to the blast in Delhi, the officials have declared that digital gadgets and documentation were recovered in his possession. Alam is being carried to Siliguri to be further questioned.
One of the officers said that the police are checking whether Alam had any direct relationship with extremist groups or people who had a role to play in the explosion. Murshidabad, A migrant worker whose place of residence was raided earlier this week, is also a target of the agency in seeking potential connections between Alam and another man, Moinul Hasan. The accusations had it that Hasan had spent time in accommodation with a Bangladeshi national when he was in Delhi.
In the meantime, the members of the Alam family have fiercely refuted the claims. His family members explained that he was a disciplined, quiet student who only cared about his medical subjects. The allegations are incredible, said his uncle.
The NIA has not issued an official statement of either the charges or the kind of evidence found up to this point since the investigation is in progress.
