The Bihar organisation of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Saturday expelled former Union minister and former Arrah MP, R K Singh, as well as party MLC, Ashok Agarwal, citing alleged undying anti-party actions. The move is a major step in the disciplinary action within the party, only a day after the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) had recorded a massive victory in the Bihar Assembly elections.

In a scathing letter written to Singh, the state BJP leadership declared that his recent actions were inimitable to the party and constituted open indiscipline. The letter also indicated that this kind of behaviour could not be accredited at a time when party unity and discipline are vital. Both Agarwal and Singh are expected to clarify their stance in a period of a week.

The suspension of Sing,h according to BJP insiders, who are aware of the issue, is a result of numerous incidents claiming that he is acting against the interest of his party in the ongoing election campaign. He was reported to have been bringing serious charges against the senior leaders of the BJP, which the party considered hurtful in such a crucial political time.

Sources suggested that the suspension of Ashok Agarwal has a bearing on his family politics. His son challenged the polls of Katihar on Vikassheel Insan Party (VIP) junction, which was viewed as an act against the organization line of the BJP, besides an indication of cross-party interaction.

The BJP leadership underlined, the disciplinary measure was made because of internal order to send a strong signal against dissent that does not sit well with the party. The time of the suspensions, right after the decisive victory of the NDA, highlights the agenda of the party to maintain internal unity right after the new political term starts.

Both of these leaders are left with the job of explaining their deeds to the disciplinary committee in the party, which will be determining their future in the company.
