Mumbai: The highly anticipated courtroom drama, Haq, directed by Supan Varma and starring Emraan Hashmi and Yami Gautam, has opened to a modest start at the box office, adding a third entry to the year’s growing list of legal thrillers, following Karan Singh Tyagi’s Kesari Chapter 2 and Subash Kapoor’s Jolly LLB 3.
The film, which is reportedly inspired by the landmark Shah Bano Begum case, received a low to below-average opening day collection despite garnering positive reviews from critics and initial audience word-of-mouth praising the lead performances.
Mixed Figures on Opening Day
According to the industry tracker, Haq minted Rs 1.65 crore on its first day of release. However, the film’s makers reported a higher figure, claiming an opening day earning of Rs 2.03 crore. This discrepancy is common in box office reporting, but the overall performance suggests a slow start for the film.
The occupancy rates were low throughout the day, and they averaged out at 9.97%. The morning and afternoon shows achieved rates of 5.66% and 8.19%. The evening and night shows filled seats by the rates of 9.54% and 16.5%, respectively.
The opening day collection of Haq is quite similar to Vivek Agnihotri’s The Bengal Files, which made Rs 1.75 crore on its first day. At the end of its theatrical run, Agnihotri’s film made only Rs 16 crore.
