New Delhi: Continuous snowfall in the hilly areas of North India and cold northwesterly winds have increased the cold in the plains. Temperatures are dropping rapidly in the mornings and evenings, making people feel quite cold. According to weather experts, fog and smog may worsen in the coming days. Visibility is expected to decrease during the night and morning. Pollution levels are also expected to increase due to low wind speed. Minimum temperatures may drop by another 2 to 3 degrees in the coming week, making the cold feel even more intense.
According to the Meteorological Department, light fog is expected in the morning on Saturday, November 8, and the cold will increase. However, the weather will remain normal during the day, with the sun expected to appear as the day progresses. The department said that due to snowfall in the hilly states and northwesterly winds, temperatures in the capital are gradually falling. The cold is expected to intensify in the coming days.
Cold and smog attack in Delhi
The effects of snowfall in the hilly areas and cold winds blowing from the northwest are clearly visible in the capital. The cold winds in the morning and evening have increased the chill. According to the Meteorological Department, the minimum temperature in Delhi on Friday was recorded at around 12 degrees Celsius, while the maximum temperature is expected to be between 27 and 29 degrees Celsius. This temperature is about 0.9 degrees Celsius below normal.
As the winter intensifies in the capital Delhi, polluted air has increased people’s concerns. The Air Quality Index (AQI) has been recorded in the very poor to severe level in most areas of Delhi-NCR. According to experts, there is little chance of getting relief from pollution for the next three to four days. Due to cold winds and drop in temperature, the pollutants present in the air are getting deposited at the ground level, due to which the layer of smog along with haze is getting thicker. Symptoms like irritation in mouth, nose and eyes, difficulty in breathing and cough are also increasing.
