Karnataka Home Minister, G Parameshwara, had firmly dismissed news reports of a change of guard among the state’s Chief Minister at the time later this year. Speculating on Wednesday, he said the ruling Congress party had no indications of any such transition in leadership.

Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Assembly, R Ashoka, claimed that Siddaramaiah will be replaced by November 15 or 16 this year, and Parameshwara’s response came in response. Parameshwara dismissed the assertions of the Ashoka, taking a dig at him, saying, “I want to ask him when he learnt astrology (Jyotishya). I do not know which training school he studied astrology in. We have no signs of a leadership change in our party.”

Several Congress ministers and party men have openly discussed the change in the Karnataka leadership and speculated about it in the last few months. However, All India Congress Committee (AICC) President Mallikarjun Kharge has instructed party leaders to refrain from uttering such comments in public, and the remarks have markedly diminished as a result.

Parameshwara also spoke about the plans of a second airport in Bengaluru, guaranteeing that Industries Minister M B Patil has taken up the approach and a proposal would be sent to the centre. Meanwhile, he added the two or three potential sites are under review, without revealing where.

Asked about the debate on they should be built near Tumakuru or Bidadi, he says: “We have made our demand, they have made theirs. “According to the civil aviation department, the feasibility and the guidelines will be assessed, and the most suitable location will be determined.”
