In Rajasthan, the RAS officer’s pen-down strike, the immediate cause of which was a slap incident involving an SDM, has been withdrawn. The RAS Association called off the strike after a meeting with Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma. They want the government to act on their concerns within one month, or they are ready to go on operation band.
The executive of the Association presented their demands to the Chief Minister on Friday, led by its President, Mahaveer Kharadi, along with General Secretary Neetu Rajeshwar, including enforcement of the Employee Protection Act in the state. The act would also help protect the officers in the line of duty. The RAS Association pointed out that it is necessary, like the one recently adopted by the Rajasthan Assembly, for lawyers under the Advocate Protection Act passed in 2023.
After the meeting, the association said that the government promised to give a favorable consideration of their issues, which prompted them to call off the strike. However, they also said the final decision would be made during the association executive meeting that would be held on the 16th of December, during which other appropriate action plans would be designed.
In their petition, the RAS officers have put forward several demands, some of which include the arrest of Naresh Meena, who slapped the SDM during the devil-Uniyara by-election. They have also demanded an inquiry into the negligence on the part of some police officials and action against the erring police persons.
Besides, it has also sought passage of a ‘Government Officials Protection Act,’ provision of PSOs for more District Collectors and Sub-Divisional Officers, and a proper SOP between police and magistrates.
Some of the other demands are the dropping of forcing service periods for promotion, launching of a website to dispose of the backlog of ACRs, and a 4% raise in the higher super time scale of state services.
