Five Naxals were killed and two security officers were injured in an intensive clash that occurred this morning in the deep forests of Abujhmadh, which is located near the Kanker-Narayanpur border in Bastar, Chhattisgarh, as part of a major operation against Left Wing extremism. Late Friday night, security personnel began a search operation, which resulted in firing.
The Chhattisgarh Police say the clash started when joint security personnel moved into the densely forested area to destroy the stronghold of naxals. A senior police official in charge of the operation stated, “This is a significant operation, with an intense exchange of fire currently underway.” The condition of the injured personnel is said to be stable after they were taken to Raipur for medical attention.
This operation is an important part of a series of increased anti-Naxal efforts across Chhattisgarh. Earlier this week, security forces had achieved another major success when three Naxalites, including a senior platoon commander carrying a reward of Rs 8 lakh, were killed in an operation in Bijapur district. The operation was conducted by a joint team of the District Reserve Guard (DRG), Special Task Force (STF), Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), and an elite CoBRA unit in the tri-junction of Usoor-Basaguda-Pamed in the forested hills of Rekhapalli-Komathapalli. Naxalite camps were targeted.
A “significant blow to Naxal activities” in the area, according to Inspector General of Police (Bastar Range) Sundarraj P, who verified the recovery of three bodies and a cache of weapons.
The government’s commitment to combating naxalism in Bastar has been demonstrated by the ongoing operations. In order to protect the region and disrupt remaining Naxal networks, security personnel are still on high alert, and more operations are expected in the upcoming weeks.
