New Delhi: The AAP has held the BJP responsible for the recent dismissal of contractual staff in the Delhi Commission for Women (DCW). Sources say that workers were let go on Monday, which has elicited the AAP leadership’s fury. Manish Sisodia, the star campaigner for the AAP, commented that it is immoral for the BJP to cut the livelihoods of thousands of workers, adding it especially left out workers during the Diwali festival.
Addressing the media on Tuesday, Sisodia condemned the BJP for having an oxymoron on employment. “The BJP is full of promises that they will provide job opportunities; we do not find any hitch in snatching jobs from those who have been working through contracts for the past 30-35 years. This may just fit his personality,” he noted. He also reiterated that AAP fully supports the dismissed employees and is willing and ready to do everything possible to reinstate them.
The former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal also stood up for the dismissed employees. The workers who were sacked took to the social media platform X, and Kejriwal assured the workers that he would actively campaign for their jobs’ reinstatement. “I want to assure any of my sisters who have been fired from DCW that I will do all it takes to ensure she gets her job back,” he said in the post.
AAP also used paid news and accused the BJP of being hypocritical; the BJP had earlier promised the regularization of contractual staff in Delhi, but the Lieutenant Governor, nominated by the BJP-dominated central government, sacked DCW staff.
New information uncovered showed that such decisions to dispense with the services of these workers could have originated from a 2017 report by a committee formed by the then LT. According to the report it was suggested that unless staff recruited without sanctioned post and without proper procedures were to be dismissed.
