The Congress party candidate from the Julana constituency in the 2024 Haryana Assembly elections, Vinesh Phogat, said that every girl and woman who decided to challenge the odds and emerged a winner was represented by her in the Assembly. Defeating BJP candidate Yogesh Kumar by 5,761 votes, Phogat, a wrestler-turned-politician, stressed the importance of the win, saying, “This is the fight of every girl, every woman who cares to choose the path to fight. This is the victory, every struggle, and truth – this is the victory.
Phogat thanked the people and fans and assured the audience of the corresponding responsibility given to her. “I will always retain the love and trust this country has accorded me,” she stated. When joining politics as a woman should be seen as a victory for women as well.
As far as general polls are concerned, initial election surveys indicated that the AAP was heading for a third term in Haryana’s legislative assembly, with Phogat hopeful of a revival of fortunes for Congress. “These are early trends; wait for some time. Earlier, I was equally lagging behind, but now I have emerged as a winner. Nothing is clear yet.” She said we would form our government, confidently asserting the Congress party’s ability.
The commendable performance given by Vinesh Phogat was possible, and the happiness was evident on various platforms. A wrestler turned Congress leader, Bajrang Punia, also congratulated her on social media. Punia, who had recently crossed to the Congress along with Phogat just before the elections, described the victory as a fight against oppressive forces. “I must celebrate with the country’s daughter, Vinesh Phogat, for today’s victory.” This was not about a fight for Julana’s seat or a few candidates, but it was a fight against some of the most oppressive forces in this country. Vinesh won the match, Punia said on X.
