Mumbai: The Maharashtra government on Friday rescheduled the official Eid-e-Milad holiday in Mumbai district from September 16 to September 18.
The adjustment aims to avoid potential disruptions during Ganpati immersion ceremonies, which take place on September 17, the day following Eid-e-Milad. The notification explains, “Among the 24 public holidays notified by the State Government, the Eid-e-Milad holiday is indicated on Monday, September 16, 2024. Eid-e-Milad, a religious festival of Muslims, is widely celebrated by the Muslim community on a large scale. A procession program is organised on this occasion.
As the Anant Chaturdashi, last day of Ganesh festival, falls on September 17, the local Muslim community has decided to take out its Eid processions on September 18 instead of September 16, and hence the holiday was being rescheduled, said an official.
Eid-e-Milad Wishes
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on September 16 extended warm wishes for Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi. Taking to X, the Prime Minister wrote, “Best wishes on the occasion of Milad-un-Nabi. May harmony and togetherness always prevail. Let there be joy and prosperity all around.”
Delhi CM Kejriwal also wished people on X as he wrote “Many many congratulations to all of you on Eid-Milad-un-Nabi. Hazrat Mohammad Saheb’s messages of peace, brotherhood and service to humanity still show the right direction to the entire humanity”.
