A Delhi court extended the judicial custody of CM Arvind Kejriwal till August 27 in the corruption case registered by the CBI in connection with the liquor scam. Special Judge Kaveri Baveja extended the custody period of CM Kejriwal till August 27 after he was produced before the court through video conference on the expiry of his judicial custody period.
The court may consider the supplementary charge sheet filed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) against Kejriwal on August 27.
It is worth noting that Kejriwal was first arrested by the ED from the Chief Minister’s residence on March 21 in the money laundering case related to the scam. A few hours after that, the Delhi High Court rejected his request for interim protection from arrest.
SC refuses to grant interim bail
Earlier, the Supreme Court refused to grant interim bail to Arvind Kejriwal in the corruption case registered by the CBI in the liquor scam case and sought a response from the investigating agency on his petition challenging the arrest.
As soon as the hearing began before a bench of Justice Suryakant and Justice Ujjal Bhuiyan, senior advocate Abhishek Singhvi, appearing for Kejriwal, said that he has got interim bail thrice in the money laundering case related to the alleged scam and strict conditions have also been imposed for granting bail in cases under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). Singhvi cited the regular bail granted by the lower court on June 20 as well as the interim bail orders of the Supreme Court passed on May 10 and July 12. He informed the bench that the Delhi High Court had verbally stayed the June 20 order of the lower court.
