Sagar: The Congress protested massively in the Sagar district of Madhya Pradesh on Monday; District in-charge Avinash Jha and state president Jitu Patwari were present. Bhim Army workers marched in hundreds in Congress INC workers demanding to Gherao Collectorate Office over issues such as atrocities on Dalits, corruption in the guise of the Smart City Project, reopening of an old bus stand, and law and order situation in the area.

The demonstration saw workers simulate moves that sought to overrun barricades that had been raised by the police to act as barriers. When the protesters chanted slogans and urged the other protesters to move closer to the Collectorate, the police resorted to using water bombs to control the crowd of protesters. The use of force had its purpose of stabilizing the situation and making sure the protesters did not continue with their aggressive actions.

Jitu Patwari and many congress activists got over the barricade during the protest and tried to march forward towards the Collectorate amid chanting of slogans. The use of the water cannons by the police culminated in some form of confusion because the demonstrators were displaced from the surroundings of the office.

To this, Bihar State Patwari reacted by threatening any official who would try to suppress Rail Pay Commission employees’ protest. He stressed that legal procedure would be initiated against anyone who participated in such actions, whether an SP, TI, Collector or a Tehsildar. Patwari also used abusive language against the current state leadership, including former minister Bhupendra Singh, with a call for a change of attitude by the current minister, Govind Singh. He said that as a party, Congress will not surrender and will keep on struggling against what they consider fascism. He ended up insisting that his party was a democratic party that was willing to fight any form of dictatorial rule.
