Raipur: The centre has informed us about the appointment of two new additional judges in the Chhattisgarh High Court. Despite seniority roles, Bibhu Datt Guru and Amitendra Kishore Prasad have been designated additional judges in the Chhattisgarh High Court. This is in compliance with the provision of Article 224(1) of the Constitution, and they are to hold office for a term of two years from the date on which they assume office. The DoJ notified this appointment under the Ministry of Law and Justice on behalf of the Government of India.

Union Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal also announced these appointments on the social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter). He said, “President has in consultation with the Chief Justice of India, appointed two additional judges to the Chhattisgarh High Court. ” Meghwal congratulates Bibhu Datt Guru and Amitendra Kishore Prasad for the new assignment.

It is significant to point out once again that the Bar Council forwards the names for judging positions, and the Chief Justice of India recommends the names of these judges to the President. At present, the Chhattisgarh High Court has 22 judges. Out of them, 17 are permanent judges of the High Court, while 5 are additional High court Judges. This is expected to improve the judicial strength of the court and the prospects of dealing with the increasing number of cases within its docket.

These appointments have come at the right time by the centre because they will help enhance the working of the judiciary in Chhattisgarh. Increasing the number of judges is one of the ways that the Chhattisgarh High Court has sought to solve the problem of slow judicial delivery and make justice more accessible to the citizens of the state. It can be noted that the appointment of Bibhu Datt Guru and Amitendra Kishore Prasad indicates a continuous process of maintaining a sound judiciary in the region.
