Mumbai: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned of moderate to heavy rains in the city for the next three days and has classified it as a ‘yellow’ warning. This alert comes a time when the city was experiencing down pour that resulted in severe water logging after three days. Regarding the IMD’s current prediction, there are chances for a generally cloudy sky for next week across Mumbai and suburbs; moderate rain has been expected in most areas. The department has also suggested that this period is vulnerable to heavy isolated rainfall in some areas of the region.
The low temperature for the day is likely to be around 24 degrees Celsius on Thursday, as the high temperature is predicted to be slightly over 31 degrees Celsius for the same day. Apart from Mumbai, similar conditions in other parts of Maharashtra are expected until July 12, as far as the IMD concerns, such as Palghar, Thane, Dhule, Nandurbar, Jalgaon, Nasik, Ahmednagar, Kolhapur, Sangli, Sholapur, Aurangabad, Jalna, Parbhani, Beed, Hingoli, Nanded Latur, Osmanabad,
Continuous rain outbreaks covered most of Mumbai and Thane-Raigad areas on Sunday and Monday over the last two days. Such a flood resulted in problems with water coverage, huge traffic jams, and possible interruptions of train and flight connections in the area. State meteorological departments said several places received more than 300mm of precipitation in the next six hours. The most intense rainfall occurred between 2:30 AM and 5:30 AM on the nights of July 8 and 9, particularly in eastern and western suburbs, which was the first day of heavy rains of the season in Mumbai.
Naresh Kumar, a scientist at IMD, stated that Mumbai receives such a high amount of rainfall due to the ‘shear zone’ present at the upper level of the atmosphere. ”This monsoon has been active over the last few days and creating and showing low pressure trough with good recursive altitude above surface which is otherwise indicate as upper-level shear zone has led to rainfall activity. ” he said.
