Bilaspur: In a significant operation against illegal scrap dealings, the Bilaspur police, in collaboration with the Goods and Services Tax (GST) department, executed a major crackdown. The police confiscated two pickup trucks laden with copper scrap, both owned by Sunil Relwani, a resident of Tifra in the industrial area of Raipur. Following an investigation, the GST department imposed a hefty fine of ₹5.5 lakh on Relwani.
The police were tipped off about Sunil Relwani transporting loaded pickups filled with copper scrap from Raipur to Tifra. Subsequently, a checkpoint was established by the police in Chakarbhatta, and both pickups were intercepted and thoroughly examined. Each pickup contained approximately four tons of useless copper scrap, securely bound in separate containers with binding wire. The goods lacked proper GST documentation and were being transported under an informal bill.
Taking action under Section 102, the GST department was promptly notified, and after their investigation, Sunil Relwani was fined ₹5.5 lakh for engaging in GST evasion. Following this, the police conducted a raid at Sunil Relwani’s scrap warehouse located in the industrial area of Tifra.
During the raid, a substantial amount of copper and brass scrap materials, including nuts, bolts, spare parts, and copper winding wire, were seized. All the seized items, valued at around ₹2.5 lakh, were placed under custody at the Sirgitti police station under Section 102 due to the absence of proper billing documentation.
Sunil Relwani, proprietor of the scrap store, has been demanded to produce valid bills for the seized copper and brass scrap materials found in his warehouse. Failure to comply with this demand will result in further legal action. The confiscated scrap materials will remain under police custody until the resolution of this matter.
This operation serves as a stern warning against those involved in unauthorized scrap dealings, emphasizing the enforcement of GST regulations and the necessity of maintaining proper documentation in such transactions.
