Bhopal: Dengue cases in Bhopal are surging, with certain wards experiencing a significant rise in the case density. Dharsola village of Morena district of Madhya Pradesh has witnessed more than 50 people being affected by the vector-borne disease. The situation worsened after a girl living in a village died due to dengue on Monday. 10 other members of the deceased’s family are undergoing treatment in Gwalior hospital for dengue.

At least 1595 dengue cases have been detected in Madhya Pradesh as on 31 October 2023. In 2021, the state recorded 10,102 cases of dengue during the same period, while this year, more than 21000 tests were conducted and 1595 cases were detected, confirms Madhya Pradesh’s malaria control officer Dr. Himanshu Jaiswar.

A report on dengue epidemiology reveals that dengue incidence has increased from 0.59 cases in 2012 to 9.11 cases in 2019 per 10,000 inhabitants. Besides, wards of Southern Bhopal are identified as hotspots.

The same report also claims that 27 out of 85 municipal corporation wards in the state capital have reported 10% increase in case density from 2012. The dengue sting is alarmingly high in eight wards where case density has increased by 20% to 42% in about a decade.
