Islamabad: According to a report by Pakistan’s news channels, a local court in Islamabad has summoned former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan to appear on September 25 in connection with his alleged ‘unIslamic’ marriage with Bushra Bibi. Civil Judge Qudratullah has instructed the Superintendent of Attock Jail to ensure Imran Khans’ presence in court. Imran Khan, who is the chairman of Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf (PTI), has been in jail since he was convicted in the Toshakhana case. He was taken into custody from his residence in Zaman Park, Lahore, on August 5.

During the hearing, the judge will consider arguments presented by Imran Khan’s lawyer, who is challenging the court’s jurisdiction over the case. The judge has granted the PTI chairman counsel time to prepare their arguments.

Imran Khan faces allegations of entering into a marriage with his wife during her Iddat period. Iddat refers to the waiting period for a woman after a divorce or her husband’s death before she can marry someone

In July, Imran Khan contested a trial court’s decision to accept a petition seeking proceedings against him and his wife for living after their initial nikah ceremony, which allegedly took place during her Iddat period.

On July 18th, Judicial Magistrate Qudratullah issued a nine-page ruling stating that the petition regarding Imran Khans ‘unlawful’ marriage was acceptable for consideration. As a result, both Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi have been summoned to appear in court.
