Raipur: Heavy rainfall in various districts of Chhattisgarh has significantly disrupted normal life, causing widespread difficulties for the local population. The heavy rain has caused widespread flooding, impacting roads and crucial establishments like schools and hospitals. However, the precipitation has provided relief from the intense heat. It has also hindered individuals’ regular routines. This marks the third consecutive day of heavy rainfall, leading to the saturation of small ponds and reservoirs in the region.

Due to the persistent rains brought by the southwest monsoon across most districts, many schools have been compelled to close shortly after commencing the academic session. Inadequate maintenance and drain cleaning have exacerbated the situation, accumulating water in numerous areas. The adverse impact of the rains is evident in the vegetable market as well, where the entire market has become submerged due to the continuous rainfall. The district hospital in Rajnandgaon has also suffered inundation, with water seeping into the hospital wards. Unfortunately, this is an annual occurrence during the rainy season.

In Lakhmai Satti village of Village Panchayat Katgi, Balodabazar, children were forced to navigate submerged roads to reach the school on the second day of reopening a primary school. Similarly, in Dhamtari, a school that had recently resumed operations had to be closed again due to the relentless rains. Numerous schools have faced similar situations, necessitating closures within the first few days of the academic session. The rainfall in Dhamtari has persisted for the past three days, exacerbating the challenges faced by the residents.

The continuous rains have resulted in widespread waterlogging, submerging roads and streets in Dhamtari. The inadequate drainage system within the city has added to the plight of the local populace, causing significant inconvenience. The Sanjay Complex vegetable market in Raigad has also been affected by the lack of proper drain cleaning, resulting in its inundation. In Durg, normal life has been disrupted for the third consecutive day, prompting people to venture outside their homes only for urgent matters. The district has received a substantial 3.33 inches of rainfall thus far.
