Bhopal- Former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Digvijaya Singh staged a protest at the site where seven homes belonging to Dalit families were demolished in Sagar district. Singh demanded compensation for the affected families and accused the government of negligence in constructing Prime Minister Awas Yojana’s homes on forest land.

According to district officials, the demolition occurred on Wednesday afternoon. The homes, constructed under the PM Awas Yojana scheme, were allegedly built on forest land, and notices had been issued a year ago. After observing new construction activity, the administration took immediate action.

District Collector Deepak Arya stated that the demolitions were carried out because the homes were erected on forest land, and repeated notices had been issued over the past year. He assured that an investigation would be conducted into the matter.

Furthermore, Arya confirmed that the district administration would rehabilitate six families by granting them a land deed, also known as a “patta.” This step aims to compensate for the loss of their demolished homes.

The incident has drawn attention to the issue of construction on forest land and has prompted demands for accountability and support for the affected Dalit families. Digvijaya Singh’s protest highlights their plight and pressurises the government to provide adequate compensation and resolution for the affected individuals.
