The Bombay HC junked the petitions filed against the SLB directorial Gangubai Kathiawadi slated to release on February 25th. The biographical flick was stormed by 3 petitions, one of which was from a Congress MLA Amin Patel,  who sought a stay on the release, if the makers refused to add a disclaimer stating that the work didn’t intend to show that the Kathiawadi community or any women from that community to be related as Gangubai Kathiwadi and nor did any event in the movie indicate the entire area of Kamathipura is a red-light area.

Another petition was moved by the residents of South Mumbai’s Kamathipura which urged the removal of references to the area in the movie. The plea alleged that because of the film the women staying in the locality will be termed prostitutes’ and ‘families will have to live with lowered dignity’.

A plea was also sought by Kamathipura Queen’s adopted son, also filed for a stay order, reasoning the film portrayed him as a sex worker.

Gangubai Kathiawadi is a biographical movie adopted from Hussain Zaidi’s book, Mafia Queens of Mumbai which was about the woman Gangubai Kothewali. The movie had a Berlin premiere on 18th February, which brought Alia huge appreciation from her global fans.
