BCCI is all set to commence the 15th season of IPL from March 26th, a day here or there maybe says a source closely related. A request by its official broadcast partner has sprouted doubts on the commencement.

The board cites a doubleheader if the matches began on a weekend that falls on the 27th while its broadcaster prefers Saturday. The final decision could be expected in the IPL governing council meeting scheduled for Thursday, February 24.

So far it is understood that the league phase of the tournament comprising of 55 matches – would be held across three venues in Mumbai- Wankhede Stadium, Brabourne Stadium and DY Patil Stadium rest 15 matches in the MCA International Stadium in Pune.

Previously spoken of Ahmedabad is still under consideration for the playoff however, a final decision would be revealed by next week. “We are yet to finalise the venues. So far, three stadiums in Mumbai and one in Pune have been finalised. But a shift to Ahmedabad will only happen for the playoff phase if the Covid situation is negligible. We don’t want to risk the integrity of the bio-bubble as staging in Ahmedabad will require air travel,” the BCCI official said. The playoff will take place on the previously set date May 29th that falls on Sunday.
