Protest by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) against Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge over his comments made at PM Narendra Modi was seen all over the country on Monday. The BJP called for an apology for the remarks which it termed as “indecent and offensive”.
The word came up in Bihar’s capital Patna on Sunday while Kharge was addressing a public gathering where another member of the audience had dropped the line “Modi gojiye kaha nahi” or the Prime Minister won’t go anywhere”.
BJP Launches Nationwide Protests
The BJP held meetings and demonstrations in party offices and other venues in various states, protesting against the Congress chief and protests that he step down.
In Bihar, a big gathering of the BJP supporters went in protest march and set on fire Kharge’s effigy. Congress leaders made similar gesture in Jammu where party workers set ablaze the posters of Congress president while shouting slogans against it.
The BJP mobilised a huge event in Freedom Park in Bengaluru demanding that Kharge apologise for his comments.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh had also lambasted the statements, calling them “shocking and hurtful”, because of what was said on the late Prime Minister’s father.
Congress Questions BJP’s Response
A few senior BJP leaders voiced criticism of Kharge and the Congress challenged his ‘selective outrage’. The party alluded to previous cases where Sonia Gandhi and Kharge had been subjected to derogatory comments, and questioned why had they not been subjected to the same treatment then.
Both Congress and BJP are holding their own in the specific politically charged argument which has aggravated the conflict between the two parties.
The BJP still continues to seek Kharge’s resignation, as well as an apology, from him, while congress has pressed its critics about their action on past political scandals.
The trade follows clashes between the two major parties, with the use of public statements and political behavior, which have led to accusations from many quarters.
