Air India confirmed on Saturday that one of its pilots, found unconscious and unresponsive in a Vasant Kunj hotel during a layover in the city, died.
Air India expressed its shock at the death of the pilot and is in touch with his family. The airline further said that it is providing all possible assistance to the family in this regard.
A PCR call was received in Delhi Police on Friday in the case of the ill health of a guest staying at a hotel in Vasant Kunj North police station, Delhi Police said. Police officers were on scene, and they determined the man was unconscious and unresponsive.
He was then rushed to a hospital where it was reported he was “brought dead. The investigation included a trip to the hotel for the Crime Team.
The man was a captain in an airline who had checked in the hotel on 10 September, police said. At the hotel where he was staying, in the evening on September 11th, his brother called the hotel manager, since the pilot had not answered after repeated calls.
The manager knocked on the door of the room, but it was closed from within and with the hotel’s master key opened it. The pilot then was discovered unconscious and unresponsive within the room.
Post-mortem was done at Safdarjung Hospital on 12th September. It will take time to know precisely what caused the death once the final medical opinion is returned, police says.
More investigation is still going on, police are doing the proceedings of inquest under Section 194 of Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS). The JT SDG’s haven’t made any additional details of the incident surrounding the pilot’s death public at the moment.
