New Delhi: Moderate rain was experienced in several places in the national capital on Tuesday morning, and the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for further rain and gale-force winds in the next few hours.
Safdarjung, the base weather station of Delhi, has received 32.4 mm of rain as per IMD till 08.30 am. The stations on the Ridge recorded 4 mm, Ayanagar 36.7 mm, Lodhi Road 37.6 mm and Palam 0.8 mm of rainfall respectively.
The weather department has forecasted cloudy skies accompanied with moderate rainfall with the warning that the public should take precaution particularly in depressions and low lying roads, which can experience water logging during heavy rains.
It was welcomed relief from humid atmosphere as minimum temperature at Delhi has been ameliorated with 25.5°C that was 1.8°C below seasonal mean temperature.
Meanwhile, despite the weather fluctuations, the city’s air quality was unchanged. Data, available at the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) with the Indian Meteorological Department, shows that the Air Quality Index (AQI) in Delhi at 9 AM has been pegged at 77 which falls in the ‘satisfactory’ category. When AQI is in the range of 51–100, it is considered satisfactory, and poses, in general, low health risk to the public.
The IMD is urging residents to remain alert to the weather as showers of rain and gusty winds are anticipated to occur at certain points in the city during the day.
