A yellow warning has been issued for Mumbai, Thane, Palghar, and Raigad, with moderate to heavy rainfall and gusty winds up to 50-60 kmph expected throughout the day. Over the last 24 hours, Western Suburbs received the highest rainfall at 64.91 mm, compared to 48.70 mm in the Eastern Suburbs and 36.65 mm in the city.
National capital Delhi woke up to showers as India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecast more rain accompanied by strong surface winds during the night and over the next three days.
According to the India Meteorological Department, the southwest monsoon is up for a significant revival after a prolonged lull. The renewed activity is expected to begin over Northeast India before gradually extending into eastern, central and northern parts of the country during the early part of the week.
Central state Madhya Pradesh recorded 14 % below norm rainfall this monsoon. Sowing of Kharif crops is said to be severely affected. The state has recorded 286.8 mm of rainfall since June 1, compared to the average rainfall level of 335.3 mm during this period.
Due to heavy rainfall, the Western railway has train services suspended jn the Vapi–Udwada section.The Central Railway also issued an early morning weather and operations update at 7.30 am, stating that Mumbai and its suburbs are expected to witness generally cloudy skies with moderate to heavy rainfall.
Meanwhile in Assam 31 lives were lost in the floods, the Assam State Disaster Management Authority reported.
