The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted a cloudy day with occasional light rainfall in Mumbai on Saturday with one or two spells in the city and suburbs. It will be humid with chances of reaching a maximum of 33 C and a minimum of 27 C.

Only light rainfall was observed in the city in the last 24 hours ending 8 am on 11 July. The city received an average of 0.16mm of rain, eastern suburbs 0.26mm of rain, and the western suburbs just 0.01mm.

Residents have also been urged to be vigilant because there is high tidal activity. High tides of 3.98 metres were forecast at 09:28 am and 08:43 pm, respectively. The next low tides will be at 3:06 pm at a height of 2.26 metres, and at 3:17 am on July 12 at a height of 0.69 metres.

Mumbai experienced an erratic monsoon pattern, as per the observations of weatherers. During the period of 29th-30th June to 6th-7th July, almost 60 per cent of the seasonal average rainfall was recorded within a span of 8 days in the city. During the same period, Colaba received 862.6 mm and Santacruz had 969 mm of rainfall recorded.

One by-product of global warming is increased atmospheric moisture, which results in heavier rain in shorter bursts, according to meteorologists. This trend is making the monsoon less predictable, with heavy downpours falling in short bursts rather than continuous rain throughout the season, experts say.
