Climate activist Sonam Wangchuk on Thursday called for a peaceful march to Parliament on July 20 to grab the government attention. The July 20 is the beginning of the Monsoon Session of Parliament. The award winning climate activist appealed to supporters across the country to join the march in Delhi.

In a post on X, Wangchuk said requests asking him to end his hunger strike would not address the issues he is raising through the protest.

Wangchuk also thanked the supporters for their messages to break his Hunger Strike, but that wouldn’t help the 20 students who committed suicide nor will that help protect the mountains of Ladakh or the rivers of India.

Wangchuk urged supporters to travel to Delhi and assemble at Jantar Mantar on July 20 before beginning a peaceful march towards Parliament.

“If you really want to help, then do a little more than messages from comfy couches. Come to Delhi and to Jantar Mantar on 20th July… Together we’ll start a very peaceful march to the Sansad and appeal to our honourable MPs to take the issue up and find a lasting solution,” he said.

According to updates shared by the organisers on social media, Wangchuk’s hunger strike has entered its 12th day.

The latest health update said he has lost more than seven kilograms during the protest, while his blood pressure was recorded at 103/68.

The appeal for a march comes as broader protests linked to Centre’s failure in conducting competitive examinations across the country and death of students after NEET UG paper leak.
