Three children of a family died after drowning in the river in Chhattisgarh’s Bilaspur district on Saturday. The incident took place on Saturday.
The children, along with their 14-year-old cousin, were returning home from school in Nayapara, about two kilometers from their village, Sumdeep, the station house officer of Takhatpur police station, said.
The deceased have been identified as Anmol Jaiswal, his sister Siddhi Jaiswal, both children of Bhuneshwar Jaiswal, and their cousin Riddhi Jaiswal, daughter of VijayJaiswal.
According to the police, Rajendra Jaiswal, their 14 year old cousin had a bicycle and suggested taking the river route as a shortcut instead of using a bridge. He got off the bicycle and began crossing the river on foot with three children. As the waves spiked, the trio lost balance and swept with the current.
A search operation was immediately launched, with the SDRF team deployed immediately, the SHO said.
According to officials, Stuti’s body was recovered late Saturday evening from the bushes around 50 meters from the spot, while the other two were found at Suri Ghat around 1.5 kilometers downstream on Sunday morning.
The postmortem reports revealed death due to drowning, he mentioned, adding that the bodies were handed over to the families for final rites.
