Ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to New Zealand, Christopher Luxon on Thursday welcomed the proposed India-New Zealand trade deal. Annoucing big relief to India, the Kiwi PM said 57% of New Zealand’s exports to India will be tariff-free from day one. The move is being seen as market boost for Kiwi businesses.
Emphasising the economic gains from the proposed pact, Luxon said a majority of New Zealand’s exports to India would receive immediate tariff relief once the agreement comes into effect. The decision makes it easier for businesses to expand their presence in one of the world’s fastest-growing markets.
Sharing his remarks on social media platform X, the New Zealand Prime Minister wrote, “New Zealand businesses are set to boom with our India Trade Deal. 57 per cent of everything we export to India will be tariff free from day one.”
Luxon’s remarks come ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to New Zealand, where the proposed trade agreement is expected to be among the key issues discussed between the two leaders.
The proposed pact is aimed at strengthening economic cooperation between India and New Zealand while expanding bilateral trade and commercial opportunities for businesses in both countries.
