Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi received a ceremonial welcome at the forecourt of Rashtrapati Bhavan on Thursday as she began her three-day official visit to India.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi welcomed his Japanese counterpart during the ceremonial reception. Following the event, the two leaders introduced members of their respective ministerial teams and official delegations.

Takaichi is visiting India to participate in the 16th India-Japan Annual Summit, where the two countries are expected to review bilateral ties and discuss ways to strengthen cooperation across key strategic sectors.

Ahead of the visit, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) described Takaichi’s trip as an important milestone in advancing the India-Japan Special Strategic and Global Partnership.

Welcoming the Japanese Prime Minister, MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said the visit would help further strengthen the longstanding relationship between New Delhi and Tokyo.

In a post on X, the MEA said Takaichi was received in New Delhi by Minister of State Jitendra Singh, adding that the visit marks another step in expanding bilateral engagement.

During the summit, India and Japan are expected to hold discussions on expanding cooperation in several strategic areas, including economic security, resilient supply chains, emerging technologies, defence, maritime security, and investment.

The annual summit is expected to provide both sides with an opportunity to further deepen their strategic partnership amid evolving regional and global challenges.

The strategically important meet has not only marks the opening of another manufacturing facility but also underscores the growing strategic and economic partnership between India and Japan.
