After a much-anticipated film by Tamil Nadu’s CM Vijay, ‘Jana Nayagan’, made its way closer to the holy land of the moviegoers’ dreams – theatrical release – the latest development comes with reports that progress has been made in its long pending certification process with the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) before its release in July.

Following its original release, which was lost due to a prolonged certification controversy, the film has come up in numerous conversations regarding good or bad that has been seen this year in Tamil cinema.

As per the reports, the release date for Jana Nayagan has been pinpointed as 16-17 and 23-24 July. Also July 31 has been suggested, but this could compete with Vijay’s son Jason Sanjay’s maiden film ‘Sigma’.

Usually, the producers don’t reveal such an official release date.

The movie was earlier set to release in theaters on Pongal day 2026 on January 9 but was later delayed when CBFC reportedly protested against some parts of the movie citing political elements in the film being its issue. This certification process then languished for some months.

But apart from the certification problem, filming sections were also leaked online, albeit sources have yet to be confirmed.

Jana Nayagan holds extra meaning because it is supposed to be Vijay’s last film as an actor before allotting 100% of his time towards politics.

The fans are now excited to have the official word from the film’s makers on not only whether the film can be released theatrically but also when it will be.
