An Indian Air Force AN-32 aircraft met with an accident on Saturday and reportedly caught fire following landing inside the military facility. Initial reports indicated that the aircraft landed before the fire broke out, prompting an immediate emergency response within the airbase premises.

In an official statement, the Indian Air Force said the incident occurred at the airbase, but did not immediately provide details regarding the cause of the accident or the condition of those onboard. “An AN-32 transport aircraft of the Indian Air Force has met with an accident at the Jorhat Air Force Station in Assam. More details are awaited,” the Air Force said in a brief statement.

Authorities have not yet released information regarding casualties, injuries, damage to the aircraft or the circumstances that led to the accident. The Indian Air Force is expected to provide additional details after preliminary assessments at the site.

Jorhat Air Force Station is one of the key military airbases in northeastern India and regularly handles transport aircraft operations.

This comes months after two pilots of the Indian Air Force were killed in a Sukhoi Su-30MKI fighter jet crash in the Karbi Anglong district of Assam. On March 5, the twin-seat fighter aircraft took off for a routine sortie from the Jorhat Air Force Station and lost communication with ground control at around 7:42 pm. After that, the aircraft could no longer be tracked. Officials said the fighter jet eventually crashed in a remote hilly area of Karbi Anglong district, located about 60 km from Jorhat.
