Electric vehicles come as a massive first step towards greener transportation, with MP Chief Minister Mohan Yadav adding one to his official convoy. The Madhya Pradesh government has bought a brand new Mahindra XEV 9e for the Prime Ministerial use, thus becoming a leading state leader in implementing electric mobility for official usage. The intention of the move is to ensure the use of less fuel, promote clean energy and help achieve the overall goal of environmental friendly governance.
The electric SUV can drive almost 500 kilometres on a single charge, officials said. The vehicle is to be used for the first time by the Chief Minister in a trip from the Chief Minister’s residence to the State Hangar.
The model so far has also received attention in the form of its registration number MP 02 VB 2047. According to the officials “VB” is meant as “Viksit Bharat” (Developed India) and “2047” is synonymous with the vision espoused by Prime Minister Narendra Modi of making India a developed country by the year of Independence 2047.
The decision is timed to coincide with increasing initiatives to encourage energy conservation and cut down on fossil-fuel consumption. The state government feels that if EVs are given top-level consideration then the message of environment-friendly, sustainable shape of development will be sent out at top levels.
The shift is also congruent with Prime Minister Modi’s recent appeals for citizens to be conservation of resources, cut fuel usage, and become proponents of sustainability initiatives in a long-term perspective. The move of the Chief Minister to an EV is a positive step towards promoting green transportation in Madhya Pradesh.
